What was the first Corvette with a V8 engine?

1955 was the first model year for the Chevrolet Corvette to include a V8 engine.

The original 1953 Corvette was powered by a six-cylinder engine, but for the 1955 model year,

Chevrolet added a V8 engine option to the sports vehicle. This small-block V8 engine had greater power and a higher maximum speed than the six-cylinder,

and it immediately became the engine of choice for Corvette purchasers.

1955 was also the first year that a manual gearbox option was available for the Corvette, which, paired with the new V8 engine,

made the Corvette a real performance machine.

The Corvette has continued to change throughout the years, but the V8 engine remains crucial to the car's character and performance pedigree.
